A world class laundry has to respect nowadays the ZDHC program (zero discharge of hazardous chemicals) the global Detox campaign of Greenpeace. In response to the growing pressure to eliminate pollution of the environment, a group of major apparel and footwear brands and retailers made a shared commitment to help leading the industry towards zero discharge of hazardous chemicals by 2020. The Joint Roadmap is a plan that sets a new standard of environmental performance for the global apparel and footwear industry. It includes specific commitments with timelines to realize this ambitious goal.
That means f.i. to not use APEO/NPEO/OPEO products in wash processes, they are very persistent and difficultly degradable in nature. APEOs have hormone disruptive properties and they are toxic to aquatic organism. Same is with AZO compounds for dyeing, some of them are carcinogenic. Also we have to look for alternative bleaching methods (see there) and donít use sandblast anymore, there are alternatives.
To know about the wash technology and how to organize the work flow in a laundry in cooperation with the departments of dry-processes are the keypoints of being successful.
It is very important to create a wash recipe to obtain the desired look, be profitable and find the easiest way to have no trouble or reworks in production. To assure the desired outcome continuously, a well organized Quality Control Department including a daily reporting system is absolutely necessary.
Besides this the transfer of the look from developments into production, fast and well running, shows the real performance of a laundry.
For the realization of the above mentioned issues the employees need to be trained and educated with the necessary knowledge.
